Puma Road Racer III

Puma Road Racer III
I realize that racing flats are not everyone’s running shoe of choice, but I have been the cushioned route and still find great pleasure and comfort in a minimalist racing flat. As you will have noticed, I am not the lightest runner out on the road and usually tip the scales just under the 80kg mark. As such most run stores suggest I consider a neutral or cushioned shoe, but thanks to a good mate, I am now a committed racing flat fan.

Last year I raced in the Puma Road Racer II’s and while they were very comfortable, they were a little too much shoe for me and had a tendency to retain water, not necessarily ideal for a triathlete. Last week I took delivery of 2 pairs of the brand new Puma Road Racer III’s and am hugely impressed by the changes they have made.

Firstly the sole no longer has the canvas cut-outs and is all rubber, bar three tiny pieces of IdCELL. Gone are the asymmetrical laces, although I kind of liked them. The tongue is also lighter and less prone to water retention and the leather strip across the front of the shoe has also been consigned to the fashion heap. What’s left is a practical, fast and light (184g) shoe that can be used for any distance up to and including the marathon. just add some Lock Laces or Yankz, pull them on barefoot and you have the perfect triathlon shoe.
